Why stay with us?
What's so special about us when compared to other so called eco-friendly lodges?
OR
Why you should choose Dhole's Den for your stay at Bandipur?
AND
How BIG or SMALL your Carbon Footprint can actually be by choice…
We have been the FIRST project to try and successfully employ eco-friendly methods in the Bandipur National Park |
- First Lodge in the district and in the Bandipur national park to utilse alternative energy by a wind-solar hybrid solution
- First to have a bio-diversity garden
- First to employ waste water treatment using reed beds to reduce the effluents entering the ground water to the maximum
- First to use a bio-digester for the disposal of kitchenwaste
- First to have all LED lights on the property
We believe that Eco-consciousness begins with doing away of modern luxury which means there are no air conditioners, televisions, telephones, tea and coffee makers or for that matter refrigerators in the rooms. To start with most
of the electricity is generated by a wind turbine and solar cells. The switches are clearly marked allowing you to use renewable energy to the maximum. The kitchen waste is turned into bio gas in our bio gas digester. We use a age old
method which was used even in the Indus valley civilization until recently rediscovered. The waste water is treated in reed beds so that the resulting waste water is odourless and can be used for farming in our own vegetable
garden which inturn supplies our kitchen with organically grown products. We harvest rain water on 90% of the built up area and provide the earth with softwater and use it to recharge our borewell. Even the water used for
gardening is pumped by a solar pump. We always ask ourselves one question: How small can our and your carbon footprint be?
Dhole’s Den and wildlife
Our lodge is in the vicinity of small villages bordering the Bandipur National Park. Nevertheless the wild animals of the park are close enough to be even heard. Be it the sloth bear with
its cubs at night or elephants and wild boar, the roar of the tiger or the growl of a leopard, none are ever too far away.
Sustainable & Responsible tourism
- Number of guests entering the forest is limited as we accommodate only 15 persons when fully occupied
- Construction of guest areas is limited to 10% of the property
- Support the local youth as 80% of employees come from adjoining villages and tribal settlements
- Support the local school by providing assistance in form of educational material and conducting safari rides and educational talks highlighting the importance of forests in their lives
